The Kitchen of the Future:
Your refrigerator will have two scanners attached; one for items with bar codes, one to scan a photo (with bar code) of various fresh foods like fruits and vegetables. Your TV will be a high bandwidth internet set. While making breakfast on an efficient magnetic stove (known as inductive cooking available today), you watch a cooking show on your Internet set. You love the recipe and press the "I want to make it" button on the touch screen flat panel set. Immediately a pop-up screen says "Your short several items, do you want to order, hold, print-out or have delivered?" Your response is to press the button to have delivered, and Web-Van delivers these items by 4:30 PM. Your oven is preheated by 5pm to the appropriate temperature and a recipe is printed on your kitchen screen for your review. The instructions are covered in detail if you wish or you may skip sections you know how to do, all on the flat screen internet DVD. You forgot about desert so you press a main recipe button and select "Suggestions for Deserts" for your main course. A pop up screen appears that says "Dietary Considerations?" and you press the button and it tells you that to balance the meal, you need vitamins K6 and B13 available in the recipe #59 which also goes well with your main course. You select this one and alas, you don't have the items in stock, so the alternate recipe appears, since you don't have enough time to shop again. Yes, this is the future of home automation; coffee anyone? Of course, our coffee makers know that on Sunday, we will not have coffee until 10am.
